Mainly done with primitive sculpted in ZBrush (sphere for the head, box for the cape, sphere for the hood, cilinders for legs/boots...). Rendered in Max with Mental Ray, Photoshop for post-process.

When the librarian gets bored of clasifing all his volumens of information, he goes to the main lobby and creates an Universe. Nothing fancy, just a little big bang and everything starts comming out smoothly, some hundreds of elements and a few physic rules to keep them together for a while; but he also gets bored of these universes, so he throws them away to a dark corner in a small corridor. Then it's time to rest after the hard work.

The Mirror

I was playing around with a face that I did a few days ago.
I just took the head and started to sculpt shapes that I saw at the same time, like shadows that could create a cool shape or closing a little bit my eyes to see something different and this guy started to appear.
Later I did a SSS and hair test, I liked the render so I started to modify in photoshop just for fun.
When I was photoshoping I thought it was like a mirror in a fairy tale, when the hero is approaching to a mirror and instead to appear his own reflect it appears some kind of deformed monster.

It took me a few hours, I didn't look at the clock but I guess it was about 5 the whole process.
the pipeline was: max->zbrush->max->photoshop
rendered with mentalray.

Thanks for viewing,
Hope you like it!

Talos

This is for the Hardcore modeling challenge: Ray Harryhausen Tribute. I decided to enter because of the topic.
I love the Ray Harryhausen movies, specially "Jason and the argonauts". There are three things that shocked me when I was a kid and watched the movies: Medussa, the scene with the skelletons and the giant of stone. So I made Talos. I even thought that it was a real scale statue the first time that I watched the movie, hehehehe...

I've used 3D Max, ZBrush and Photoshop. It took me around 15 hours (I thought that the point of these challenges was the speed so I did my best to finish it quickly), plus a few hours for the renders... yes, a few hours for these renders... I have a very slow laptop.

I didn't pretend to make a 1:1 copy of the original and I had a lot of fun making this model.

Thanks for viewing!

I love the art of Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell and I wanted to understand the composition of the classic fantasy pictures. I took the original concept from an old book of Boris and Julie. Everything is done in MAX, textures in Photoshop. SSS for skin, rendered with mr, final gather in a separate layer. For the cloth I used a falloff map with 2 different speculars, one of them is anisotropic. C&C welcome.
